An Easy Way to Double Your Profits …by Hooking Into
New Business
You have probably heard it all before …it is the old
story about how Domino’s Pizzas got started. The Pizza
business is an incredibly competitive industry and the story
is about how a failing pizza joint suddenly “got-going”
and became an industry giant.
What was Tom Monihan’s secret in marketing his pizza
business? He developed a marketing hook that worked very very
well. It goes like this, “Fresh hot pizza delivered
to your door in 30 minutes or less, guaranteed!”
When you come home from work too tired to cook ….what
springs into your mind? How about … “Fresh, hot
steaming pizza, delivered in less than half an hour”
….sound to you?
From this example, you can see that the hook doesn’t
attempt too much or try too hard. It does not say, “Momma’s
secret recipe with pepperoni”, or “The base has
a new kind of crunchy pastry”. He doesn’t even
say if it is any good.
The hook says, “I will get it to you hot …in less
than thirty minutes,” which is enough to put a favorable
mental image in your mind. You get an emotional connection
...and hooked like a fish.
If you look at the message again ...it is very specific ….it
doesn’t say, “It will be there soon.” Or,
“It will be real good.” It is the focused, “laser-like”
message that gets us emotionally attached.
What we need to develop for our computer repair businesses
is a similar type of hook that will work away in the background
generating tons of new business.
The beauty of creating a good hook is …it saves marketing
costs. That’s why good marketing types are sort-after
people. They sell the goods as well as save on costs. A
salesperson - accountant mishmash.
I can’t suggest to you a marketing hook of the same
quality as the one used for Dominos pizzas …but I can
give you a few ideas if you are in the computer repair business.
I have never been in the business of primarily selling computers
….yet I always sell them as a sideline.
Solely relying on an income from selling computers from a
shop without a computer support business ….is a recipe
for disaster. It is much easier to be in a support role and
to sell PCs on the side and maybe migrate to a retail premises
in the future.
The one technique I have used for years is, “How to
buy a new business computer for XXXX dollars.” Here
the hook invites customers to ask about computers and look
at the sales information. I specify an entry level, good quality
computer. It works very well in generating good business.
It also saves time in not having to specify individual quotes.
As you may know if you do supply a new computer …the
customer needs it installed and supported. The installation
may take from a couple of hours to a couple of days ...with
on going support required.
